Welcome to MEGA's Competitive Team Program
Under the directions of Kim and Juha Tanskanen, the MEGA Competitive Team Programs will continue to nurture a strong team composed of gymnasts willing to work hard to achieve their goals. A key to our success is the commitment and strong dedication of the coaching staff-giving 100 percent to all levels of the competitive teams. MEGA signed its first College Scholarship in the 2nd year of business, only reaffirming the commitment of the coaching staff to see their gymnasts continue their careers at the collegiate level.
Kim and Juha Tanskanen bring many years of experience to this program. Kim grew up doing gymnastics, and finished her career at the collegiate level. She has coached gymnasts of all levels, from compulsory to the elite level. Before moving to Michigan, Kim coached and judged in Minnesota and Illinois, producing many state, regional and national qualifiers and champions. Her background as a Certified Athletic Trainer has given her experience working with novice and professional athletes of all sports, including the Arena Football League, NFL and MLB. She has a complete understanding of the importance of working the mind as much as the body to prevent injuries and obtain optimal performance.
Juha competed as a gymnast on the Finnish national team, and has competed in many international meets, including two World Championships. More than just being a gymnast, Juha has devoted many hours to coaching young athletes to become the best. Before coming to the United States, he coached the Junior and Senior Finnish National teams, at which time he coached his brother to become the 1997 World High Bar Champion. Since moving to the United States in 1998, Juha has continued the tradition of coaching top caliber gymnasts.
Juha is a member of the USAG Men's Junior Olympic National coaching staff, resides as the Michigan Men's Technical Director, and possesses an International judges rating. Juha has judged numerous Junior Olympic competitions, Men's Big Ten Championships, NCAA Championships, and the American Cup. He brings a spirit with him to the MEGA Competitive Teams!
We are fortunate to be a part of region 5, the strongest and most competitive region in the country! Region 5 includes Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. Region 5 athletes and coaches come together many times throughout the year to participate in training camps, clinics, workshops, etc. to promote the sport of gymnastics and enhance the performance level of the athlete. We thank all of the coaches, athletes and parents who come together to make a difference in the sport of gymnastics.
Our teams work hard to achieve their goals. Our coaches are committed to our program and to assisting your gymnast in achieving her goals. Our reputation precedes itself, as there have been significant accomplishments made, as MEGA named USAG National TOP Team members, National TOP Diamond Team members and signed its first college scholarship within the first two years of business. We will continue to set high standards for ourselves to ensure that your gymnast is receiving the best coaching available. Gymnastics is a sport that requires desire, commitment, and time. We would not be successful without the dedication from our athletes, parents and coaches. We thank you for your support in our program.
